Junior and Senior Art Education
Junior Art education is offered to students in grades 4-9, who are introduced to a wide variety of visual arts mediums, including drawing, painting, lino-cuts, collages, mixed media, assemblages, and plaster of paris and papier maché sculputres. Students also explore drama, dance and music, through mime, expressive movement, song, and experimentation with musical instruments.
For grades 4-6 we aim to play and have fun with art whilst teaching students some basic principles and elements of the art world.
From grades 7-9, we focus on helping students develop their technique and find their strengths to prepare them for grade 10, when they can choose art as a subject to carry through to grade 12. We delve deeper into the elements and principles of art, examining line, tone, colour, shape, form and texture and the effects they can have on an artwork. We also introduce students to a range of different techniques and styles they can incorporate into their work.

My life in Art and Creativity started at a very young age, being born into a family where I was always surrounded by art and very creative people. At age 7 I had my own Imaginary Art Television show "Pret met papier" teaching art and never lacking in imagination. So my passion and destiny were born to be an Art Educator and I finally completed an Advanced University Diploma in Visual Arts & Design for Education National Curriculum Gr7 to 12. I am currently teaching Creative arts at PJ Olivier Gr4-9.

Art has always been a passion of mine and a way to understand the world around me and connect with others. For this reason, I pursued becoming an art teacher. I moved to Makhanda in 2020 and completed a BA in Art History and Visual Culture and Literary Studies in English. I then obtained an honours degree in Literary Studies with a focus on graphic novels, and a PGCE majoring in Visual Arts, Creative Arts, and English Home Language through Rhodes University. I was appointed as a Junior Art teacher in 2025 after obtaining my PGCE through the Johan Carinus Art Centre in 2024.
